A Susie Recommended Recipe: The Lazy Cook's Chicken Chili!

The Lazy Cook's Chicken Chili: a Susie Recommended Recipe!

From our good friends at the 12 Tomatoes site, comes this luscious and oh-so-unique chili recipe. And it's easy as can be! Combine it with a batch of cornbread muffins (I like the old-fashioned Jiffy brand myself!), and you are set for a hearty dinner that will really hit the spot on a cold night.

The Joy of Eating In!

Tired of going out to just a casual restaurant or even just getting takeout and having it cost an arm and a leg, even *before* the tip? Explore the wonderful world of "eating in"! Even if you are a beginner to cooking of any kind, it is much easier than you might think!
To start, check out recipes on cooking sites. My go-to for great simple meals is www.allrecipes.com. Just browse around and get familiar. You'd be amazed at how many meals require just a few ingredients  and many only require you to open up a few cans, dump them in a pot together and heat them up (that's our chili and that recipe will be posted in another segment!).
Some recipes are a free-for-all. You just make it up as you go along! This is often the case with making an omelet or a scramble (like an omelet only less tidy!). Today I whisked some eggs with a little milk, cut up onions and bell peppers, cheese, and some leftover ham, and cooked it all together in a pan that had melted butter in it. Voila - a Denver scramble! But you can add or subtract anything you'd like and it would be great!
More easy recipes coming soon, for all of us who like to save money by eating in, but don't want to spend too much time on the kitchen! :)

Am I Addicted to Costco? The Answer is YES!

Everyone who knows me also knows I will extol the virtues of shopping at Costco at the drop of a hat. The purchasing power you have at your fingertips is amazing! And well worth the investment of the basic (Gold) $55 yearly membership, or better yet, the Executive membership at $110 which also gives you 2% back annually on most purchases! We save an average of 30 cents per gallon on gas, and many many dollars by buying most of our frozen, canned, and pet supplies there, and countless others! More on that in another post.
But I found a VERY cool way to find out the latest and greatest items available at Costco! Some fellow Costco-heads have a neat blog called Costco Couple. Wild, right? The have a daily post with information (including pricing) of at least 3 new products in most Costco stores. Woohoo!! Check 'em out, kids! :)

My New Favorite Rewards App: SHOPKICK!

     Hey kids!
Did you know you can earn rewards just by walking into a store, or by scanning specific products? Yep! SHOPKICK is a cool app to check out that does just those things. It's free (natch), and you can start earning "Kicks" (their lingo for reward points! cute!) right away. For example, today is their "Super Saturday", and I will be getting 100 "kicks" just by walking into Vons, 150 by walking into CVS, and I could get a whopping 300 kicks just by walking into Macy's! =)  I'm well on my way to my first reward. Hey, Forbes rated shopkick as one of “America’s 100 Most Promising Companies” in 2014....pretty good kudos, I would say! I also say - I do no shopping without rewards! ;D

Welcome to my blog! :)

I am so excited to create a brand new blog! If you are wondering about the name, it's because I always liked the '90s show, Clarissa Explains It All, and I actually share a birthday (April 18th) with Melissa Joan Hart. Plus, well, obviously, my name is (at least sometimes) Susie and I love home stuff and I always wanted Suzy Homemaker toys in the '60s (but never actually got them, got an Easy-Bake Oven instead)! :)

Anyway. More excitement to come! But I will try to cut back on using exclamation points. ;)
